What is the U.S. Soccer Development Academy?

The United States Soccer Development Academy (USSDA) is the highest level of youth soccer in the United States for male and female soccer players. Legends FC is the only club in the Inland Empire to offer its membership the opportunity to play in the USSDA. The Development Academy provides a clear pathway for Legends FC players: US Youth National Teams (USYNT), NCAA, Professional Soccer (MLS, USL, NWSL, NASL), as well as the Men's National Team (USMNT) and Women's National Team (USWNT).

The mission of the DA program is to have a direct impact on the everyday club environment by providing clubs with the education, resources and support to develop world-class male and female players.  This model focuses on the developing the individual player within the club environment setting a standard nationwide that will positively impact thousands of youth players.

This program provides a development structure that focuses on playing more meaningful games with highly professional game day environment, more training, high level coaching, development before winning attitude, and great exposure in major college showcases events

The Academy's Key Principles

Increased Training

More high-quality training sessions (three to four times per week), depending on age groups) would accelerate player development.

Fewer Total Games

Inverting the training-to-game ratio (from over 100 games to 30 during the extended 10-month season), would allow for more training time, increased touches on the ball, and healthy rest and recovery for young players.

Meaningful Games Using International Standards

Challenging players against other elite teams - in environments mirroring those on the international stage - would replace meaningless tournament trophies with thoughtful strategy and long-term individual development.

Moving Away From The Pay-to-Play Model

The U.S. Soccer Development Academy Scholarship Program would ensure talented players were on the field, and not held back by economic barriers.

The Development Academy is going to bring clubs and coaches together to become more aligned in terms of what the big picture is: to find players and help them become the best soccer players they can be.

United States Soccer Development Academy

To maintain a focus on club training environments, Academy players and teams do not play in any outside competitions without written permission from the U.S. Soccer Development Academy staff. This includes any other leagues, tournaments, State Cup competitions, ODP or All-Star events. Development Academy players for all teams must choose to participate in the Academy full-time and forgo playing for their high school teams.

Full-time Academy players can only participate on their designated Academy team, with only two exceptions: U.S. Soccer Training Centers and Youth National Team duty.

The Development Academy upholds this rule because we believe elite players require world class environments. The Development Academy's 10-month Program allows for a greater opportunity to institute style of play and implement a system according to U.S. Soccer's Development Philosophy. It also gives teams increased opportunities for younger kids in their club to "play up" against older players in both training and matches, thereby accelerating their development.
