Far West Regional League News (March 24-25, 2013):

BU14 (B98) win their 3rd and final game of the weekend defeating Fullerton Rangers 3-2. Goals by Brian Peek (2) & Peter Carrasco. That puts the team in first place in the Far West Regional League standings with 2 games left. Great weekend boys!!

Legends FC is proud of our 4 players called to the US National Training Center this coming Thursday, January 24th. These players will have an opportunity to train in front of our US Youth National team coaches and be evaluated amongst other top level soccer players.

Congratulations! Kyle Dunaway has been selected to participate in US Club Soccer’s Player Development Program (PDP) for Southern California, which will be held February 9, 2013, at Bell Gardens Soccer Complex in Bell Gardens CA.  PDP events are identification and developmental programs conducted under US Club Soccer’s id2 National Identification and Development Program. PDP events are based around clubs and leagues in specifically targeted geographic areas. Top players in specified birth years from multiple clubs are invited to participate based upon scouting within the leagues and recommendations from Directors of Coaching. The id2 Program, including every PDP event, is sanctioned as an Olympic Development Program. 

2013 Cal South Girls U18 National Cup Champions

Under-18 Girls Legends FC (CA-S) were the only team to defend their division championship this season, and the 2012 National finalists are just the third team to ever win multiple National League Girls titles.  The U-18’s gave Legends FC its fifth Girls league title as a club, putting Legends in a tie with the Dallas Texans (N-TX) for most Girls championships.  GSA Phoenix (GA), with the Under-16 Boys Red title, is now tied for the most Boys championships of all time, also with the Dallas Texans.

Legends FC G94 & Legends FC G96 concluded their National League Seasons by securing a spots in the USYS National Championship Series to be held in Kansas.

U.S. under-14 girls national team coach April Kater has called up 48 players for the first U.S. under-14 girls training camp of 2013 that will run May 12-19 at the University of Portland. For almost all of the players -- the majority of which were born in 1999 (the year the USA won the historic FIFA Women’s World Cup in the USA) -- this will be their first introduction to the U.S. national team programs.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Tanya Samarzich, Upland, Senior, Forward

Given the myriad levels of the soccer Olympic development program, there is often confusion when discussing membership of a “national team.” Particularly when the member is a high school senior. The case of Upland forward Tanya Samarzich is easily simplified. “Oh yeah, she’s on the actual Mexican National Team,” Upland coach Bo Whieldon said. “You don’t find many her age that are because usually they’re on the under-20 national team. It’s kind of a big deal.” Samarzich, 18, a dual citizen, didn’t play a full season at Upland until this year because of her required presence in Mexico or elsewhere around the globe. Her senior year netted her All-Valley Player of the Year honors after a 26-goal, 11-assist season during which she led her team to an outright Baseline League championship. CLICK HERE to see story.

Notre Dame Women’s Soccer vs. Mexican U-20 National Team

Under Irish coach Randy Waldrum, Notre Dame has always played a challenging national schedule of top college teams. But the Irish went a step further Friday night, defeating the Mexico under-20 national team 4-3 at Alumni Stadium.

"Mexico took back the lead after Samarzich scored twice to complete the hat trick. Samarzich, who has committed to USC, broke away for the tying goal in the 57th minute and then struck a shot into the lower right corner of the goal in the 77th to give Mexico the lead".CLICK HERE to see the full-story.....

Legends FC Technical Director, Matt Evans, has been named the 2013-Nike Competitive Coach of the Year.

Matt Evans has been with Legends FC since its inception and is responsible for developing many talented players and teams within the Legends program.

Matt Evans has an extensive playing background as a  former professional soccer player, collegiate All American, and growing up as a US Youth National Team player. He uses his talent and expertise as one of the few coaches out there that demonstrates everything he teaches.

Matt will receive his award on Saturday night, February 16, 2013 at the Cal South Awards Banquet. This award is well deserved and please welcome us in congratulating Matt Evans for this honor!
