FAQ’s- Winter Soccer Academy

I want my player to work on skills, but she hasn’t played club soccer, is this for him/her?

This program is for everybody. Every week there will be training sessions designed to improve the technical ability of the individual. Games will be a reward for all their hard work in practice.

Is the Winter Academy only for club players?
No, this program is for beginners, intermediate, and advanced. There are no club players registered for this program. The Winter Academy is for players that want an extra three months of training & games, want to get exposure to higher level training & instructional coaching, and players that want to take their soccer to the next level (Whatever that may be for the individual).

What is the practice schedule?
The practice schedule will include (2) 75 - minute training sessions per week. We will run training for all the age groups during the same time. We are encouraging you to attend both training sessions however there will be no consequence if you have to miss.

Where are training sessions held?
We are finalizing fields in both Glendora and Chino Hills.  A link to all FIELDS can be found on our front page (includes maps).

What if it rains or there is poor weather?
Unfortunately we cannot control the weather. The city decides whether the fields are open or closed. If training is cancelled due to  poor weather, players have the opportunity to attend another location on different days. If field closures/cancellations become excessive - training sessions will be made up on Fridays.

Are players divided into teams for training?
Our primary focus is on the training and all training will be run like the Academy / Camps. After we spend some time with players, we will assemble teams for the different play dates.

Is there goalkeeper training?
Yes, we have many goalkeeper coaches on staff.

Do you have anything for players ages older than 12?
Players ages 6-18 may also consider trying out for one of the Legends FC competitive teams. These teams are available for players U9-U18 and compete on a year-around basis. Annual tryouts are held in the spring, but players can request to attend an open practice or a tryout at any point during the year. Click here to fill-out tryout request. (interest in club teams only)

I still have more questions, who do I contact?
Our Director, Josh Hodges is more than happy to answer your questions/concerns. He can be reached at LegendsFCdoc@aol.com or (626) 347-2554.

What days are games?
We have scheduled 1 friendly tournament on the weekend of: January 16-18, 2010. There will be multiple games over this weekend.

How often will they play?
Throughout the Academy training sessions, players will have plenty of opportunity to compete in organized scrimmages. The main play dates are listed above.

I am unsure what ’player experience level’ to check off on the registration. Will the kids be evaluated in case they should be placed in a higher or lower level?
We will take the 1st two weeks of December as an opportunity to get to know each of the players and determine at what level they should participate. Typically all of the players the same age group will be training together.
