(Los Angeles, CA)… The Los Angeles Legends Men’s PDL team came from behind, eventually scoring the match-winner in the 90th minute and edging the San Francisco Seals 3-2. The win holds the LA Legends (6-2-2) in second place in league and three points behind the Fresno Fuego. The game was played at Azusa Pacific University’s Cougar Stadium on Friday, June 20th.
With barely 5 minutes on the clock, Seals striker, Peter Lovell, came up with an early goal. The Seals then kept the 1-0 lead until the half. The LA Legends, having returned well after midnight from a match against the Fresno Fuego, had started the game with some familiar faces on the sidelines.
After the half, coach Phil Wolf subbed in attacking threats: Ross Schunk, Davis Paul, Bryan Fakkema and Ian Etherington. The Legends quickly tied the score 1-1 with a goal from Paul in the 51st minute, assisted by Fakkema. The goal ignited the Legends and made for a nervous Seals team. The next 30 minutes saw both sides deliberate in possessing the ball from the back and choosing their opportunities cautiously.
Schunk, who had scored 2 goals the night before, then found the net in the 81st minute, assisted by Etherington. Two minutes later the Seals responded with a second goal from Lovell. lt looked certain the score would remain tied and allow neither team to put significant points on the board.
However, Fakkema found the goal in the 90th minute, assisted by Paul. LA Legends keeper Patrick Lane played the full ninety minutes and had five saves.
The LA Legends return to Cougar Stadium on Friday, June 27th, taking on the San Jose Frogs. On Saturday, June 28th, the LA Legends face the Fresno Fuego in a rematch at 7:30pm, also at home. The Saturday match is a double-header with the LA Legends W- League team playing the Fort Collins Force at 5pm. All home matches are at Azusa Pacific University’s Cougar Stadium.
