In the 54th minute, Chivas was putting the Storm under high pressure in the box area. Rodrigo Lopez took a shot that deflected off Storm player Amir Shaffi, catching the goalkeeper off guard and allowing the ball to trickle into the box for an own goal and evening the game at 1-1.
In the 64th minute, Storm answered back. Matt Hodges collected a ball in the midfield and slotted a ball just outside the box for Cito Soriano (U19 player) to run onto and drive to the upper corner of the goal. Putting the score to 2-1 gave the Storm confidence and made the Chivas fans very nervous.
Just 6 minutes later, Chivas USA player, Jorge Flores buried a goal in the back of the net to equalize the game at 2-2. With 4 goals in the 2nd half, a tie would have been a fair result on the night. But unfortunately for the Storm, in the 89th minute of play, Chivas scored the best goal of the evening. Barry Steele struck a half-volley to the upper corner of the goal to seal the fate of the LA Storm.
A 5-goal scoring frenzy sent all fans home feeling like they got there moneys worth, and that both teams had quality sides.
