G13s Finish as State Cup Finalists

The U13 State Cup Final, pitted Glendora FC Red U13 against league rival, Arsenal White. After eight games in five days of favorable soccer weather, the  Final was played on a cold, wet and windy day in Lancaster...

In the first half, GFC played with the wind, and took advantage by pressing the Arsenal defense. However, the strength of the opposing keeper prevented any GFC scoring. In the second half, Arsenal also took advantage of the wind, attempting to play long balls to counterattack GFCʼs passing game. GFC managed to execute several strong offensive attacks during the second half but was unable to convert.

The overtime periods were a repeat of regulation play with neither team capitalizing on their opportunities,. The game was pushed into penalty kicks. After seven kicks the results amounted to a heartbreaking 5-4 loss for GFC.

However, this team still has a lot to be proud of. During their State Cup run, they outscored their opponents 37-3. In the round of 32, they outlasted LAFC in seven penalty kicks. And in the quarterfinal match, GFC came from behind in the second half to take the win from Carlsbad Lightning. Throughout the tournament the girls showed tremendous heart and courage, especially considering they played with only 13 players after losing a key starter to injury during pool play.

Congratulations to Coach Marco Lopez and the U13 GFC Red team on your outstanding accomplishment!
